Hostel Napoles

They don’t speak much English here and don’t quite know what to do with me. But until I get the money from the house (which finally rented!) I don’t have a lot to spare. And pennilessness is the stuff from which adventures are made!

  1. Yikes! Well, you could be at loose ends and temporarily broke in somewhere less exciting than Madrid! I look forward to reading about this adventure. I was meant to do the Camino myself this month, but with Covid I decided to wait until later.

      1. I would be there now, but I’m going to Texas on Saturday. I freaked myself out about it more than anything; I suppose. I hope to go later this year or next spring, I just don’t want to be cold. I thought to start in St. Jean Pied-du-Port, but I expect to take a taxi some. I know I cannot walk all that way.

      2. Don’t go before May, I’d say. Find a way to pack very carefully. You don’t need more than one change of clothes, although I took two. I recommend finding someone who’s done it to help you pack. The less you carry, the better it goes. You can always buy what you need in whatever town you come to. Lightweight and quick-drying are your watchwords.

  2. I’m really thinking of August. I know it’s bloody hot then, but I handle heat better than cold. My best friend lives in Marseille and she and her family will be in the southern part of Spain then. I’m super flexible of course so I’m thinking I will just one day say, Here I go!

    1. Well of course you handle heat better; you’re a Texan. You can always send your pack on, but that gets expensive, especially starting as early as St. Jean. The first day over the Pyrenees is brutal, just brutal.
